Art Rocks in Montreal this Fall & Winter: From $127/N
Art lover or Music lover? If you answered yes, then this fall the place for you to be is Montreal, Canada. Known for its vibrant art scene, three of the city's cultural institutions have chosen to honor the influence of rock music on art with three great exhibits.
There is no better way to get your children into art than showing them the colorful and powerful pieces by Andy Warhol. Now through January 18, 2009 the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is presenting the "Warhol Live" exhibition and event. The exhibition will explore the fundamental role of music and dance in the work and life of Warhol with 640 pieces of art including paintings, silk-screens, photographs, album covers and films. Families should arrange a trip to the museum on Sunday for Family Day with a variety of activities to stimulate all ages. Children under 12-years can visit every day for free (when accompanied by an adult).
For an array of music culture, the Musee d'art contemporain de Montreal is presenting "Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll since 1967" now through January 11, 2009. The exhibition explores the relationship between avant-garde art and rock music over the past 40 years. From Andy Warhol's legendary involvement with The Velvet Underground in New York in 1967 to the dazzling 2007 installation of Pinball Wizard and The Byrds (Love in a Void) by British artist Jim Lambie, visitors will be able to see art pieces divided into six different themes corresponding to music scenes throughout the world. This exhibit is a great way to bring young and old alike to share and discuss. Children 12 and younger can visit free (when accompanied by an adult).
The North American premiere of "Replay" by Christian Marclay will be presented from November 30, 2008 to March 29, 2009 at the Foundation for Contemporary Art. The exhibit will explore the fusion of fine art and audio cultures. Marclay gives art a sound and music a physical form. Admission is free for everyone.
